Tiwa Savage – Ife Wa Gbona Ft. Leo Wonder

Wow! Talk about reviving a song. Tiwa Savage drops a video for a song that is about 2 years old if I remember correctly. I remember hearing it around the same time, Kele Kele came out.

Anyways, there’s no harm in dropping a video to revive a single, and this one does just that. The first lady of Mavin Records goes traditional on us with this one.

The song Ife Wa Gbona features Leo Wonder & was directed by Bolaji Kekere-Ekun. Enjoy.

Kanye West + G.O.O.D. Music Album ‘Cruel Summer’ Leaks Online

As expected, Kanye West‘s G.O.O.D. Music compilation ‘Cruel Summer’ leaked online Wednesday night (Sept. 12), much to the chagrin of his record label Def Jam. In recent years, album leaks on the Internet have become more exciting than the actually release date.

Several songs from the 12-track LP have already surfaced on the web and publications like SPIN and the Los Angeles Times have already offered their first-listen reviews of the collection. Fan reactions to the album on Twitter have been mixed. One follower wrote, ‘Cruel Summer’ may not be the greatest album ever, but it bangs so hard in the car!” while another tweeted, “I’m not even disappointed with ‘Cruel Summer,’ I said it would be average and it is (imo).”

However, there are some people who are waiting to cop the physical CD and don’t want to tarnish their listening experience with an illegal download. “I am not going to review cruel summer till it officially comes out that is why am not going to listen to it i don’t want to kill my excitement,” tweeted fashion blogger @KenyanStylista.

According to Complex, online leaks have become the new pastime for digital audiophiles to hear new music. “Leak night represents the way new music is consumed, and release day is a relic,” writes Ernest Baker about the music trend. “Leak night offers an immediacy indicative of where we’re at now, as modern music listeners. It’s not that we don’t want to buy albums anymore, but the conversation about them isn’t happening in line at Tower Records anymore.”

“Simply put, record labels need to start dropping their tentpole projects on iTunes and Spotify on leak night,” he continues. “The audience and the artists are living in the future. Maybe the industry will catch up soon.”

Which has us wondering why West didn’t use the same release-date tactics that he and Jay-Z employed in 2011 for ‘Watch the Throne.’ When the album hit iTunes, nobody had heard it yet and everybody was able to hear the LP legally (albeit there were illegal digital copies floating around) all together at one time.

Rihanna Drops ‘Cockiness (Love It)’ Remix

Rihanna will appear at the VMAs on Thursday, Sept. 6, so what better way to hype up her appearance and her almost-a-year-old ‘Talk That Talk’ album than by dropping the remix of the overly sexed up song ‘Cockiness (Love It)?’ The remix features a few verses courtesy of Harlem rapper ASAP Rocky, last seen posing as JFK to Lana Del Rey‘s Jackie O in her ‘National Anthem’ video.

A$AP Rocky drops plenty of eff bombs, even saying he will go “RiRi-tarded” in a line that might upset some people.

Remember, this is the song where Ri sings, “Suck my cockiness / Lick my persuasion.” Oh, the puns, the puns. They pretty much ooze sex. Ri then coos about how she wants you to be her sex slave and anything she desires. She also sings about loving it when you eat it. And she’s not talking about cake or any other sort of food, people. The lyrics to this hot, buttered jam are certainly X-rated.

There’s no subtlety here. Come to think of it. There’s no puns, since those require a bit of facetiousness. RiRi is not joking. She is outright begging for a bangin’ here.

Her cadence in the song pays homage to her island roots and it lives among that undulating beat just won’t quit. Rocky takes an already X-rated song and adds a couple more “Xs” to it, since he isn’t afraid to use cuss words in abundance.

Guardian UK review of D’banj’s Hammersmith Apollo, London concert

As he’s the figurehead of Nigerian Afrobeats, it feels appropriate that D’banj’s debut UK headline show takes place on the final day of the Notting Hill carnival. Alongside the usual dancehall and soca, a good proportion of the anthems that fuelled this year’s sound systems and floats are the hits that have propelled the rise of Afrobeats in the UK: Atumpan’s The Thing, Ice Prince’s Oleku and, of course, D’Banj’s own Oliver Twist, a song of such popular reach that it even made it on to EastEnders.

Keeping that carnival spirit going is D’Banj’s MO tonight, as is that of a significant proportion of the audience, who have hotfooted it down the road from the carnival. As an entertainer, D’Banj treads the line between suave and rambunctious with ease: his dapper yellow-lapelled blazer is swiftly shed as he starts to rival his own dancers in snake-hipped, low-grinding ability, and the gold chain follows as he plunges off stage for a spot of crowd-surfing. By the show’s climax, D’Banj is half-naked and essaying moves that seem to refer mostly to the title of his forthcoming album, Mr Endowed.

After a late entrance compounded by technical difficulties leaves the crowd slightly restless, D’Banj may feel putting that level of work in is necessary – but it transpires that the music does the trick just as well. “This is not a fluke,” he announces midway through the show, perhaps mindful that not everyone present is aware of his seven-year career before Oliver Twist. Tonight, though, his older material goes down almost as well, from the call-and-response of Why Me to the lovelorn Scapegoat, and D’Banj bridges the gap between his more lilting, organic songs and his recent tougher, trancier dance-floor anthems with ease. His between-song patter has a tendency to ramble, but the show’s culmination in Oliver Twist is stellar proof that an international hit can be engineered with ease if based around a resonant, inarguable statement such as “I like Beyoncé”.

Psquare, Bez lead nominations for The Headies 2012!

As another edition of one of the most prestigious music awards in Nigeria, The Headies draws nearer, the nominees for this year’s awards have been revealed!

Pop giants Psquare, Soul-Jazz singer Bez Idakula lead the nominees list with six nods each.

The twin pop duo released their fifth album last year with the smash hit singles ‘Chop my money’ and ‘Beautiful Onyinye’ both garnering international remixes from US acts Akon and Rick Ross respectively. They received nods in the ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Artiste of the Year’, ‘Song of the Year’, ‘Best Pop single’, ‘Best R&B-Pop Album’ and ‘Best Collabo’ categories.
