Enzo Zidane: Is Zinedine Zidane’s Son Real Madrid’s Next Star?

Enzo Zidane may just be 16 years old and set to clock 17 yrs these year,he’s already making waves in the world of soccer, and has come to the forefront once again after training with Real Madrid’s senior players on Tuesday.

Enzo, the son of former Madrid star Zinedine Zidane, certainly has the lineage. Zidane led the French team to a victory at the 1998 World Cup and to the final of the 2006 World Cup, earning the Golden Ball as the tournament’s most outstanding player in the process.

Enzo, who currently plays for Madrid’s Youth C team, obviously has a long ways to go. But has moves reminiscent of his father are already creating a high level of interest throughout soccer, including from Manchester United and Juventus in the summer, as well as Les Bleus and Spanish national soccer team La Roja.

Enzo has dribbling skills and passing ability in the same style as the great Zidane, and has already become a YouTube sensation, incorporating his father’s “roulette” spin into his game at a young age.

Said Santi Cañizares, now a pundit on youth soccer for Spanish TV station Canal Plus, via SabotageTimes.com:

“He’s very much like his father in his football, especially in his movement. On the field he’s the same, he’s a central midfielder with the same freedom.”

In October, Jorge Valdano, the former manager of Real Madrid CF, said, via the Daily Mail, “He is really his father printed on the pitch.”

Enzo is still a good six years or so from joining a professional soccer club, but the battle between the French and the Spanish to acquire his services is rather telling out the gate. It’s all speculation at this point, but Enzo hasn’t made his name solely under his father’s wing; he’s shown some skills that project him as a possible solid player in the future.

According to FoxSports.com, Madrid said on its website that Enzo “perfectly integrated into the group” in Tuesday’s session with the club, a group that included Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Kaka.

Enzo certainly isn’t short the hype, and his emerging skills are intriguing, but how much he progresses in the next six years will be the final determinant as to if he’s worth the hype.

One thing’s for sure: Enzo Zidane is a name we will be hearing plenty of in the coming years.
