Obafemi Martins faces continued frustration in Russia and may soon leave

Close sources to Obafemi Martins have hinted that the striker is currently facing huge frustration and challenges at Russian side Rubin Kazan.

Martins started the 2012-13 pre-season with the club in top form, scoring eight goals in 13 appearances and his assist won the Russian Cup against Zenit St. Petersburg. However, a source close to the player says he is not a happy person at the moment.

Since joining the club in 2010, Martins has had a chequered time at the Kazan side where he won the Russian Cup in the 2011-12 season. He was loaned away to Birmingham City in 2011 where he scored the winning goal in a 2-1 defeat of Arsenal to win the League Cup.

However, his playing time at Rubin has reduced and a recent clash with a team mate has earned him demotion to the B team.

Mitten Molegro, an Italian associate of the player, told Goal.com that Martins is being kept out of the team due to his being a foreigner.

“Why will a player like Oba play well in training and pre-season but because he is not a Russian, [Kazan] don’t want to play him,” lamented Molegro. “The same thing happened to Osaze Odemwingie that’s why he left the country for England.”

Martins recently quashed talk of interest from several clubs in Turkey, China, England and Spain but he admits that he would like a move away from Russia in search of greener pastures seeing as the club have acquired the services of 22 year-old Venezuelan striker Salomon Rondon from Malaga.

“I will be ready to join any club that want to take me up permanently and the next ten days will be crucial to such move,” Martins told CompleteSports.
