Muamba retires from football

Bolton Wanderers midfielder, Fabrice Muamba, has announced his retirement from football today. The former Arsenal and Birmingham player, took this decision on medical advice.

In March this year, he suffered a cardiac arrest in the 41st minute of a televised FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspurs. He was received treatment on the pitch, before he was rushed to the London Chest Hospital. Muamba made a remarkable recovery, even after he was ‘clinically dead’ for 78 minutes and was making plans to return to football, before this new development.

Muamba was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but moved to the UK when he was 11 and then represented England at the U-21 level.
